Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine
La Jolla, California
The Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine is a wellness and healing environment that offers conventional medical services combined with alternative complementary therapies. The client wanted to create a fresh, vibrant, and energetic space within an existing facility that was showing its age. This interior renovation project expanded the Center’s services and added new centers for health and healing, life enhancement, and fitness. The original design concept of the Center, created by interior design firm Jain Malkin, Inc., is based on sacred geometry which appears in the spirals of a nautilus shell used throughout the existing space. This concept was expanded to include the shapes, forms and colors of the ocean and its waves. The team used Building Information Modeling (BIM) to ensure that the elaborate design features could be built within the restrictive existing space, which included a two-story basketball gym and a low-ceilinged area that became the yoga center.
